| St Petersburg, or St Pete as the locals say it, had its beginnings in 1875 when 2,500 acres were purchased by General John Williams of Detroit. In 1888, noble Russian aristocrat, Peter Demens, brought the Orange Belt Railway, which was followed by Professional baseball spring training in 1914 as well as the "birth of commercial aviation." The boom years of the 1920's, and developer Perry Snell, brought St. Pete much of its historic construction that in which many residences find their community pride in preserving. The city survived the depression and New Deal federal funds in 1939 brought the growth that was magnified by WWII. US troops filled the city for training at the US Coast Gaurd Station on Bayboro Harbor, many returned with their families to the gorgeous climate after the war. The 1950's and air conditioning brought the retiree community to St Petersburg and growth has since continued to present day. The "Sunshine City" is now the 4th largest in Florida with a rich history, many beautiful communities and people. | |

St Petersburg Neighborhoods |
|
Pinellas County offers a wide variety of neighborhoods, lifestyles, and selection of homes. For instance, St. Petersburg has a wonderful downtown urban/waterfront area, nearby early 1900's historical districts with large shade trees and brick paved streets. Bay-front and canal front homes abound, with bungalows, "craftsman" style homes, mansions, and everything in between.
